2 congregations plan joint worship service with a steel band
Christ United Methodist Church and Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbia will hold a joint worship service with TAGE, The Adult Group Ensemble - a steel band - at 10 a.m. Aug. 14 at Owen Brown Interfaith Center in Columbia.
TAGE is associated with the Cultural Academy For Excellence (CAFE), an arts-based program for those ages 10 to 18 at First United Methodist Church in Hyattsville. The program provides academic tutoring, mentoring and musical training on the steel drum. Many of the TAGE members - parents, relatives and friends of former CAFE students - learned to play the steel drum at CAFE's adult classes.
CAFE, a nonprofit group, provides scholarship help to graduating students, most often in the form of a computer to be used in college; TAGE donates its performance fees to CAFE's scholarship fund.
Owen Brown Interfaith Center is at 7246 Cradlerock Way.
