Dance festival begins July 11 in Westminster
The Westminster Ballet Theatre will hold its first Westminster International Dance Festival from July 11 to Aug. 12 at State of the Arts Dance Studio, 90 Aileron Court, Suite 3.
The goal is to gather dancers, teachers, theater production specialists and art enthusiasts from all over the world to share, discover, learn and perform in the county.
The festival will allow the dancers world-class training, uniting a diverse global community of choreographers, performers, teachers and students in five weeks of intense study, exploration and exchange.
The festival will conclude with a performance at 8 p.m. Aug. 12 at Carroll Community College's Scott Theatre.
Participants will experience a range of dance styles and movements in an atmosphere that encourages the exchange of ideas and provides an opportunity for personal and artistic growth.
Included in the program will be daily workshops in classical ballet and pointe, musical theater, modern dance, Pilates, yoga, flamenco, Chinese fan dancing, swing, Irish step dancing, Middle Eastern dance, as well as workshops in history, improvisation, nutrition and costume design.

Arts Center to present Shakespeare's 'Dream'
The Carroll Arts Center will present William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream at 7 p.m. July 12 at 91 W. Main St., Westminster.
The show is produced by the Olney Theatre Center's National Players in cooperation with Boston University Theatre Institute.
A Midsummer Night's Dream transports the audience to a world of young lovers, elves, fairies and playfulness. The text weaves fantastical plots with a world of royalty and a midsummer "madness" fueled by the light of the moon.
