Hot dog contest

Nathan's annual hot dog eating contest will have some competition this year, when the Dog House hosts its first rendition of the contest here in Maryland. Instead of trekking all the way to New York, spend your holiday weekend in Ocean City.

The 12-minute contest will take place outside Gold Coast Mall, and the winner will receive a $500 gift certificate to the mall. The event will feature a disc jockey and dancing, and a free weekend stay at the Comfort Inn near the mall will be given as a door prize.

The contest will take place Monday outside Gold Coast Mall at 11505 Coastal Highway in Ocean City. The event will start at 1 p.m. Free. Call 410-524-4400.

Cosby performs

Bill Cosby, one of America's best-known comedians and TV's Dr. Huxtable, makes an appearance at the Calvert Marine Museum on Saturday.

The venue has added two large projection screens for the audience to see Cosby up close. The rain-or-shine show will have food and drink available, but coolers will not be permitted.

The show Saturday will be at the Calvert Marine Museum, 14150 Solomons Island Road in Solomons. Tickets cost $55. Gates open at 6 p.m.; the show starts at 8:15 p.m. Call 410-326-2042 for information or 800-787-9454 to purchase tickets.

Kutztown Festival

Celebrate a simpler life at the Kutztown Festival. In the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country, the festival revolves around the unique culture of the area's most famous settlers. The event runs Saturday through July 10 and promises more than 2,000 quilts and 200 folk artists who will demonstrate and sell their crafts. There will be seminars on folk life and the Pennsylvania Dutch and an opportunity to see a Mennonite meeting house and antique wagons and buggies.
