Capital Gazette wins special Pulitzer Prize citation for coverage of newsroom shooting that killed five



On Thursday, June 23, 2005, JOSEPH BRUMBERG, 85, of Roanoke, VA. He was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue and a longtime Roanoke Valley business owner. "Red" Joe was preceded in death less than a year ago by his wife of 61 years, Cyrile K. Brumberg, and is survived by a daughter, Renee Piel, of Baltimore, MD; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Marci Brumberg, of Roanoke, VA; four grandchildren, Stacey Gottlieb and husband Rick, Jonathan Brumberg and fiance Jessica Rugel, Hunter Piel, Lauren Piel; and a great-granddaughter, Dara Gottlieb. Funeral Services will be conducted from the graveside, Beth Israel Cemetery in Roanoke. At 10:30 A.M. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to the building fund of Beth Israel Synagogue (920 Franklin Road SW; Roanoke, VA 24016). Friends may call at the home of Renee Piel (Towers East Condominiums; 7111 Park Heights Avenue, Unit 601) from 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday, June 30. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
