Hospital has urgent need for blood donations

Anne Arundel Medical Center is urgently seeking blood donations. Although some hospitals purchase blood or use donations from the Red Cross, AAMC depends solely on donations made at the hospital. The hospital's blood bank is open for donations from 8:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Monday; 8:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday; 7:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Thursday; and 7:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Friday. Any healthy adult between the ages of 17 and 70 who weighs at least 110 pounds is eligible to donate. Appointments: 443-481-4215.

Hospital offers program on joint replacement

Specialists from Advanced Orthopedics at North Arundel Hospital will offer a Joint School to provide participants with a free opportunity to learn about total joint replacement therapy.

The program is being offered at 4 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at the Courtney Conference Center on the lower level of the Tate Center at North Arundel Hospital.

The program explains joint replacement surgery and gives those who are contemplating such surgery an opportunity to ask questions and receive information on what to expect.

Bereavement retreat:

Bereavement retreats will be offered by the Hospice of the Chesapeake for teens and children who have suffered a loss. Phoenix Rising, for teens in ninth through 12th grades, will be held from 5 p.m. July 15 through 2 p.m. July 17. Camp Nabe will be held for children ages 6 to 13 beginning 5 p.m. Aug 12 and ending 2 p.m. Aug. 14. Aneurysm screening:

Rabies alert:

Because of a significant increase in rabies cases in the county, residents are urged to have their pets vaccinated. Rabies vaccinations may be obtained at a nominal cost from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays at the animal control facility, 411 Maxwell Frye Road, Millersville. 410-222-1288.

Asthma summer camp:

The American Lung Association of Maryland will hold Camp Superkids, an overnight camp for children with asthma, from July 17 to 22. The camp is for children with moderate to severe asthma, ages 7 1/2 to 12. Registration is required by Wednesday. The cost is $300. 410-560-2120, ext. 224.

Support group:

Alcoholics Anonymous:
