This year, for the first time, the Wilde Lake Community Association will offer a family pool party in each of the village's neighborhoods.
The first pool party will be held July 20 at Running Brook Pool. The parties will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will cost $3 a person, which includes swimming, pizza and a beverage. Tickets, available at Slayton House, must be purchased in advance. Children to age 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
The parties are for Wilde Lake residents only, but pool membership is not required. There are no rain dates.
Marvelous Movies series slates 'Sunset Boulevard'
Slayton House in Wilde Lake Village Center will screen the last film of its Marvelous Movies and More Film Series, the 1950 film Sunset Boulevard at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The film, directed by Billy wilder, stars Gloria Swanson and William Holden.
Dessert and coffee will be served after a short discussion led by Mike Giuliano. The cost is $7; $6 for seniors and students. There will be raffle prizes. Tickets are available at Slayton House.
Lorien center holding medical unit open house
Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 6334 Cedar Lane, will hold an open house for its newly renovated hemodialysis and medical specialty unit from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The medical specialty unit is designed to provide care to patients who require ventilator weaning or chronic ventilator management.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony with local officials is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Hors d'oeuvres, dessert and door prizes will be available.
Tap classes: Judy Templeton will offer summer Razz-a-Ma-Tap classes for teens and adults at Slayton House in Wilde Lake Village Center. Beginners are to meet at 4:30 p.m. Mondays, starting tomorrow; intermediates are to meet at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $75 for six weeks. Registration is required. 410-772-9448.
At the library: The central library, 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway, will offer "Be a Super Babysitter," for youth ages 11 to 15, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. tomorrow and Tuesday. Hope Jackson of the Howard County Cooperative Extension will talk about safety, first aid, beating the bedtime blues and other topics. Participants must attend both sessions to receive a certificate. Registration is required. "Tips for the Entrepreneur," with Richard Lowery, professor of management and small business at Bowie State University, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Play group: The Parent Resource Place, a program of Jewish Family Services in Howard County, will offer Share and Compare, an informal drop-in play group and parent workshop from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the first and third Fridays of each month.
