Drama of 'Democracy'

Creating the play Democracy: A Work in Progess was a "democratic process," playwright Don Thompson has said. The show, which examines democracy throughout history, was developed by the Maryland Ensemble Theatre of Frederick, then scripted by Thompson. It opens tomorrow at the Swirnow Theater in the Mattin Center at the Johns Hopkins University.

Directed by Tad James, the production incorporates multi-media elements with monologues and scenes. "It tackles the idea of what is democracy and are we doing it?" according to the director. The cast includes Matt Baughman, Jeanine Collins, Brian Irons, Joann Lee, Rona Mensah, Clayton Myers and Karen Paone.

Showtimes in the Mattin Center, 33rd and Charles streets, are 8 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays and 2 p.m. July 2 and 9, through July 9. Tickets are $15. For more information, call 410-516-4695.
