Boys Player of the Year

Andy Peters, McDonogh

Another year, another championship for the Eagles' sophomore.

Peters won the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference's No. 1 singles title with a hard-fought, straight-set victory over Tim Cadet of Friends in the final.

Peters won for the Eagles at No. 3 last year and was solid at No. 1 this spring.

In addition to the MIAA, he also won the tough New England Mid-Atlantic Invitational. He's a consistent player with good ground strokes and a much-improved first serve.

Girls Player of the Year

Ashley Harvey, Catonsville

Harvey won her third county title in her final year with the Comets.

The senior went 14-2 and is headed to Long Island University to play tennis. She finished fourth in the state this year and was one of the school's best players ever.

Having breezed through the regular season, Harvey was simply at a different level than the other players in the county's public schools.

Coach of the Year

Jeff McDaniel, Catonsville

McDaniel has worked hard over the past 10 years to make the Comets a solid tennis program.

Catonsville finished second in the county again this year with a 9-1 record after losing some players from last year's team. Its only setback was a 5-4 loss to Catonsville.

McDaniel has compiled a 101-19 record at the school, despite not having the depth of some other programs.
