Baltimore Sun’s BEST party in 2 weeks

Boys Player of the Year

Zach Gorn, Gilman

Gorn won his second straight Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association singles title. The sophomore captured the A Conference No. 2 singles title this year to cap a 13-0 season.

Gorn is a solid player who doesn't make many mistakes and covers the court well. He and Chris Mason will give the Greyhounds a strong 1-2 punch yet again next year.

Girls Player of the Year

Annie Wu, Bryn Mawr

The sophomore lost to Carly Van Hollen of St. Paul's twice during the regular season before Wu bounced back to win the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference No. 1 singles championship.

Wu ended the season with a 12-3 record.

Since Wu and Van Hollen are sophomores, they'll probably battle a few more times over the next two seasons.

Coach of the Year

Maurice Chalmus, City

Chalmus helped the Knights win the city title with a 10-0 record and send a school-best seven players to the regionals.

He has been a driving force the past few years as city tennis tries to raise the overall level of play. The Knights have gone 30-2 the past three years, and Chalmus has nearly the whole team returning next season, including city champion Lily Friedman.
