Performer of the Year

Alison Smith, Atholton

Smith, a sophomore who also was named Performer of the Year in cross country and indoor track earlier this year, recorded four victories at the county championships -- the 800 (2 minutes, 22.22 seconds), 1,600 (5:14.31), 3,200 (11:48.21) and 1,600 relay (4:13.34).

Smith, who set meet records in the 800 (2:18.7) at the Jaguar Invitational and the 3,200 (11:02.5) at the Bob Golliday Invitational, swept the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 at the Class 2A South regional meet(2:19.89 in the 800, 5:09.39 in the 1,600 and 11:06.02 in the 3,200) and the state championships (2:15.58, 4:56.92 and 11:19.80).

Coach of the Year

Brian Funk, Atholton

Winners of the county indoor track championship this past winter, the Raiders tried to repeat the feat this spring. But Atholton ran up against Long Reach, which won its eighth consecutive title.

Refusing to become disillusioned by the setback, Funk turned the Raiders' attention to Class 2A South regional and state meets. No. 3 Atholton responded by winning championships at both meets.
