Performer of the Year

Katie Hursey, North Carroll

In her first season of track and field, Hursey captured the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 26.07 seconds, the 1,600 in 5:33.20 and the 3,200 in 12:04.85 at the county championships.

At the Class 3A West regional, the sophomore scored victories again in the 1,600 and the 3,200, winning them in 5:12.7 and 11:34.0, respectively. Hursey made her biggest statement at the state championships. Despite trailing in both the 1,600 and 3,200, Hursey sprinted to the finish and claimed the 1,600 in 5:00.13 and the 3,200 in 11:10.32.

Coach of the Year

Angela Jones, North Carroll

The Panthers won the county title for the first time since 1986. Having Performer of the Year Katie Hursey obviously helped, but Jones also nurtured athletes such as Kristin Duling, Chelsey Truesdell, Tinsley Stokes and Sam McCardell.

At the county championships, Jones made a strategic move to pull Stokes off the 400-relay squad and put her in the 400. Duling and Stokes went 1-3 in the event, sending 16 critical points to North Carroll.
