Baltimore Sun’s BEST party in 2 weeks

Player of the Year

Colleen Matthes, Institute of Notre Dame

The sophomore pitcher led the No. 5 Indians to a second straight runner-up finish in the tough and balanced Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference.

Matthes went 16-8 for the season, recording 168 strikeouts in 161 innings and six shutouts. She had one perfect game, and also a no-hitter. She hit .397 with 19 RBIs.

Coach of the Year

Lisa Martin, Digital Harbor

The first-year coach got the most out of a talented, young group to lead the Rams to a 15-0 regular season and the Baltimore City league title.

Martin, a Sparrows Point and Towson University grad, counted on team-building drills that kept practice focused and fun. The time well spent translated into wins, as the Rams (16-1) got past DuBois in their Class 1A South regional opener before falling to eventual regional champ Tuscarora.
