'Battles' exhibit

From his methods to his subjects, Baltimore native Ryan Jedlicka's new exhibit at Current Gallery focuses on struggles. Called Battles, the exhibit of paintings and drawings opens tomorrow and runs through June 27. With works large and small, Battles depicts human, animal and abstract forms confronting one another, exploring change and the idea of bettering oneself through struggle. Jedlicka constructed some of the images by painting layers of bright colors, applying writing samples and painting over them -- in the process changing them in hopes of finding resolution. In addition to Battles, Current Gallery will display collaborations between Jedlicka and Julie Benoit in the gallery's front portion and works from six guest artists in the gallery's rear portion.

"Battles" by Ryan Jedlicka opens tomorrow at Current Gallery, 30 S. Calvert St. An opening reception will be held 7 p.m.-9 p.m. tomorrow. Hours are 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturdays-Sundays and by appointment. Call 410-244-7003 or visit www.currentspace.com.
