ROBERT LA SALLE BARTL, November 16, 1930 - June 4, 2005, of Shrewsbury, PA. Beloved husband of Elizabeth A. (Hoffsommer) Bartl; beloved father of Derek F. Bartl, Kyle A. Bartl and his wife Julie, and Kara A. Seelye and her husband Craig; loving grandfather of Kayla E. Bartl; son of the late Forrest F. and Bernice (Thacker) Bartl. Bob graduated from Proctor Academy in New Hampshire and attended Western Maryland College before heading off to pitch in Minor League Baseball. Bob spent 30 years in broadcast journalism as a disc jockey, news reporter and Director of Sports at local radio stations in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. His greatest love in his career was reporting on sports, especially the three years his spent hosting a Monday night talk show with Baltimore Colts Johnny Unitas and Bobby Boyd. He continued to do what he loved during retirement, reporting for Cenpenn Net on regional college and professional sports teams. Bob was one of the fortunate people who loved his work and considered it a privilege to tell others about his love of the game. He was a member of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, ACC Sportswriters Association, Bon Air Country Club, and was active in the SYC Boys Club. Relatives and friends are invited to call on the family Wednesday, June 8 from 4 to 5:30 P.M. at the J. J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 Second St., New Freedom, PA. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 5:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Heart Association, P. O Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.
