Summer day camps offered in sports, arts, computers
Harford Christian School will offer a variety of day camps, taught by members of the faculty and adjunct staff and focused on sports, fine arts and other interests.
Soccer and music camps start June 27; Bible day camp will be held from July 11 to 15; junior basketball camp from July 18 to 22; senior basketball camp and computer camp from July 25 to 29. Each camp will focus on teaching Christian character, said the school's principal, Bryan Wilson, who is coordinating the summer programs.
Harford Christian School, a ministry of the Evangelical Methodist Church, is one mile north of Dublin on Route 136 in northern Harford County.

HCC commencement held May 21 at college
Harford Community College held its 47th annual commencement on May 21 in a tent on the college's library lawn. Professor James J. D'Amario, faculty marshal, and Professor Loretta E. Henderson, student marshal, led the procession.
The college's president, James LaCalle, and Lee McDaniel, chairman of the college's board of trustees, opened the ceremonies.
Graduates received awards for academic achievement, leadership, excellence in performing arts, the art and science of nursing, and other honors.
Child care workshop, astronomy session planned
The Division of Continuing Education and Training at Harford Community College will offer a three-hour workshop for child-care providers, "Edible Stories: Books & Recipes," from 6:30 p.m. to 9:40 p.m. Tuesday at Edgewood Hall on the college campus.
Students will learn quick and clean ways to create an enjoyable experience in the kitchen.
The college and the Harford County Astronomical Society will sponsor a free public observation session at dusk on Saturday in the parking lot at Harford Technical High School.
The public is invited to view the first-quarter moon, Mars and other features of the night sky. Members of the astronomical society will be on hand to share the use of large telescopes and binoculars and answer questions.

Cecil college accelerates medical aide training
Cecil Community College offers an accelerated part-time training schedule for the medical assistant, coding, transcription and hospital unit clerk programs. Classes will be scheduled three nights a week. Students enrolled in the medical assistant program can complete their course work in two years.
Students in coder/billing and transcription programs will be able to finish their classes in 15 months, and hospital unit clerk students can be done in 11 months.

College registration open for summer, fall
Cecil Community College is accepting registration for summer- and fall-session classes.
Summer classes begin June 13 and the fall session begins Aug. 31. Class schedules have been mailed to local residences. Schedules also can be picked up at Elkton Station, 107 Railroad Ave. or at the North East campus, 1 Seahawk Drive.

Community Emergency Response Training
will be offered by the Cecil County Department of Emergency Services, in partnership with the Maryland Emergency Management Agency. The training is free to Cecil County residents. The course prepares people in what to do during the first 72 hours after a disaster. Topics include writing an emergency plan for the household, operating a fire extinguisher, treating basic injuries, using CPR and understanding the threat of terrorism and the psychology of disaster. The seven-session class, which starts tomorrow, will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at Cecil Community College's Elkton Station, 107 Railroad Ave. Classes are limited to 16. 410-392-3366.
