8-piece band to play at Schooley Mill Park


The Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will present "Swing Out at Schooley Mill Park," with Totally Confused, an eight-piece Baltimore band, at 7 p.m. Friday.

Take a picnic and blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the evening performance in the park. Nonalcoholic beverages are welcome.

Admission is free. A $3 parking donation per vehicle will be requested. The park is at 12975 Hall Shop Road, Fulton.

Mother-daughter club:

The Glenwood library's Mother-Daughter Book Club, for girls ages 11 to 17 and their mothers, will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the library, 2350 Route 97, Cooksville. Participants should take favorite books to share and discuss. Refreshments will be provided. 410-313-5577.

Get a pet:

Members of the staff of the Animal Medical Hospital at Glenwood will present "Choosing a Pet/Buying a Horse" June 15 at the Glenwood library, 2350 Route 97, Cooksville. "Choosing a Pet -- Raising Puppies and Kittens" will be discussed at 6 p.m. "Buying a Horse" will be the topic at 7:30 p.m. Registration is encouraged. 410-313-5577.

Pool picnic:

River Hill Community Association will sponsor a Family Pool Picnic from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. June 18 at the village pool, 6330 Trotter Road. Swimming, music, food and games are planned. The cost is $2 a person for River Hill residents. 410-531-1749.

Sports camps:

River Hill High School Boosters will offer summer sports camps to help young athletes improve their skills, starting June 20 at the school. More than 20 camps will be offered. The one-week camps will run through Aug. 12. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $115 a camp. Forms are available in the school office; or 410-313-7114.
