Central library is to be open Sundays year-round

The Howard County Central Library, 10375 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia, will be open year-round from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays, except for Sundays that fall on holiday weekends, such as July 3 and the Sunday before Labor Day.

"When we did an assessment of our facilities, we did some focus groups with our customers, and one of the things that many of them asked for was ... to keep Sunday hours," said Ann Gilligan, central library manager. The new schedule will be tried first at the central library, the busiest branch, to gauge public response, she said.

County Executive James N. Robey included $10,000 in the county budget to pay for the summer Sunday hours at the central library.

As of last week, all other branches of the Howard County library are to be closed Sundays through Sept. 4.
