JOHN E. WARFIELD, 83, retired Vice President of the former Equitable Trust Bank, died of lung cancer Saturday, May 28, 2005. Born in Baltimore, his mother persuaded him in 1940 to apply for a position in banking. After starting as a runner, he retired in 1985 as Regional Vice President with 45 years of service. Mr. Warfield was drafted in 1942 into the U.S. Air Corps, serving in the South Pacific for four years. After retiring, he took up decoy carving and won ribbons at the Timonium State Fair and Catonsville Senior Center. Mr. Warfield served as an Elder in the Catonsville Presbyterian Church until 1990 when he moved to New Freedom, PA, and was a member of Stewartstown Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, the former Dorothy Berlet, daughter Meredith Maslak of Nottingham and her husband Tom, and two granddaughters: Amy Maslak and Alyson Maslak. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Stewartstown Presbyterian Church, 16 College Ave., Stewartstown, PA. Interment will be private in New Freedom Cemetery. Arrangements by the J. J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 Second St., New Freedom, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stewartstown Presbyterian Church, Capital Fund Campaign, P. O. Box 277, Stewartstown, PA, 17363.
