Thanks to senior pitchers Harrison Taylor and Beth Mullins, Severna Park and North County are now armed with new baseball and softball championships, respectively.
Taylor threw a four-hitter Friday as the Falcons defeated Wilde Lake, 9-0, for their second Class 3A state baseball title in three years and Mullins became only the fifth pitcher in state history to win three state championship games, as the Knights stopped Damascus of Montgomery County, 4-2, for the Class 4A softball crown.
Taylor (top photo) also went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs to pace a 13-hit attack in the final.
Mullins (bottom left photo) gets a comforting hug from coach Tommy Thompson after the win, which featured Jamie Buchheit forcing the runner out at second and throwing to first - just missing a double play (bottom right).
The Knights' enthusiasm and camaraderie were apparent as their fourth state title in six years came into view (middle photo).
