Nancy Lee Farms' Chrusciki stalked the pacesetter up close before moving to the lead and galloped out to an easy victory in the $34,000 optional allowance feature for older fillies and mares yesterday at Laurel Park.
Six of the seven entrants in the race had stakes experience, but it appeared Chrusciki was the class of the field as she went to post as the even-money favorite. After going 4-4-2 in 12 starts last year, Chrusciki started 2005 with a win in the Conniver Stakes.
Jockey Abel Castellano Jr. crashed to the ground in the sixth race when his mount, Harrogate Hills, fell.
Castellano was stabilized and removed from the racetrack in an ambulance. He was sent to Laurel Regional Hospital for precautionary X-rays. Harrogate Hills had to be euthanized.
