Open house to raise money for Walk for Diabetes

The "Gravy on All" Diabetes Fundraising Team will hold an open house from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Baugher's Restaurant banquet room to raise money for America's Walk for Diabetes.

The open house will feature consultants from Tastefully Simple foods, Weekenders women's clothing, Pampered Chef kitchenware and PartyLite candles.

The event is open to the public.

Networking meetings include pottery, breakfast

The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce has announced its monthly meetings for February.

The Connections After Hours networking opportunity and business card exchange will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 15 at Glazed to Perfection, 2030 Liberty Road, Suite 8, Eldersburg. This paint-your-own pottery studio offers all ages and abilities the chance to create original works of art and offers packages for special events. Reservations are required by Feb. 8.

The networking breakfast will be at 8 a.m. Feb. 22 at Boulevard and Beyond (formerly Wilhelm's) on Route 140, Westminster. John Sernulka, president and chief executive officer of Carroll Hospital Center, will discuss "The Changing Face of Healthcare," including how the hospital is continuing to improve medical care in the face of the malpractice crisis, a nursing shortage and rising costs. The cost for the meal is $12. Reservations are required by Feb. 15.

Resource center offers career-oriented programs

The Carroll County Business & Employment Resource Center offers a variety of workshops and programs to help people who may be seeking a job or looking for a new career.

Monthly programs include career ability and orientation placement survey, preparing for a job fair, employment goal identification, choosing child care, surviving layoffs, how to apply for a state job, computer and Internet basics, job discrimination, computerizing resumes, interviewing, how to negotiate, starting your own business, registering and posting resumes on the Internet, attitude, time and money management, networking, professional cover letters and resumes, job references, rolling over a 401K plan, and dealing with and making changes in your life.

Goldberger is chamber's public relations chair

JoAnn Goldberger, executive director of Carroll Child Care Centers Inc., has been named the 2005 chair of the Public Relations Committee of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce.

She has served on the Public Relations Committee for the past two years. Goldberger's career is in public relations, marketing and nonprofit management.

Previously, she directed marketing and public relations for the Alexander Muss High School in Israel, Mount Sinai Medical Center of Greater Miami and McDonald's Corp.

Goldberger also is public relations committee chair of the board of the Carroll Community Services Council. She is a 2005 Harry and Jeanette Weinberg fellow.

SportsCare & Rehab adds Erin Miller to staff

Erin Miller, physical therapist and certified athletic trainer, has joined the staff of Maryland SportsCare & Rehab in the Westminster office at 140 Village Shopping Center.

She has a sports medicine degree from Elon College in North Carolina and a doctorate of physical therapy degree from the University of St. Augustine in Florida.

Maryland SportsCare & Rehab is a comprehensive physical and occupational therapy facility with offices in Westminster, Eldersburg, Mount Airy, Owings Mills and Frederick.
