UMBC men stop Maine in 71-57 win


Rob Gogerty led three UMBC men's basketball players in double figures last night with 16 points as the Retrievers defeated host Maine, 71-57, in Orono, Maine.

Cory McJimson added 14 points and Andrew Feeley 10 for UMBC (9-9, 4-5 America East), which held Maine (9-9, 4-5) to 34 percent shooting in the first half to build a 31-25 halftime lead.


Mount St. Mary's 68, Central Connecticut State 61: Samira Rashid led all scorers with 23 points as the host Mount (5-13, 4-5 Northeast Conference) gave the Blue Devils (5-13, 4-5) their 10th straight road loss.

Mount led 31-23 at the half.

James Madison 69, Towson 68: Lindsay Dickerson scored a career-high 26 points as the host Dukes (9-8, 4-4 Colonial Athletic Association) rallied to win.

The Tigers (11-8, 4-4), who led 40-32 at the half, were held to 27 percent shooting from the field in the second half.

Bowie State 68, Columbia Union 65: The visiting Lady Bulldogs (9-8) - led by Allyson Hardy with 19 points - built a 10-point halftime advantage and held off a late rally by the Lady Pioneers (2-17).

College of Notre Dame 58, Trinity 57: Monica Cherry scored eight of her game-high 16 points in the final 5:17 for the host Gators (6-9, 3-1 Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference).
