St. John's Parish Day School holding open houses, gala

St. John's Parish Day School in Ellicott City is holding open houses for parents of prospective preschoolers, ages 3 to 5, and lower-school pupils, kindergarten through grade 4.

Parents will have an opportunity to tour the school and learn about its programs.

An open house for parents of preschoolers is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday; for parents of lower-school pupils, 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday.

Registration is not necessary. St. John's Parish Day School is at 9130 Frederick Road.

A fund-raiser, "An Evening Under the Sea," will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Feb. 5 at the school.

Proceeds will go to the St. John's Parish Day School Scholarship Fund.

The black-tie-optional evening will include dinner, dancing and live and silent auctions. Pure Gold will provide music; T*Bonz Pub & Grille in Ellicott City will provide food.

Tickets are $60.

Our Shepherd Lutheran lists its Sunday schedule

Starting Sunday, Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, 8940 D Route 108, Ellicott City, will hold two worship services and an education hour each Sunday.

An 8:30 a.m. service will celebrate communion with traditional liturgy.

The education hour is to start at 9:45 a.m., with coffee and fellowship followed by Bible study and classes for all ages.

An 11 a.m. service will celebrate communion in a contemporary setting that includes a praise team to lead singing.

Hadassah chapter plans Bingo Night on Wednesday

The Howard County chapter of Hadassah will hold a Bingo Night for members and friends at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the River Hill Meeting Room.

Winners will receive gift certificates to stores and restaurants. A meatless Italian dinner and silent auction of new and gently used donated items are also planned.

Guests are invited to bring items to be auctioned.

Tickets are $18. Reservations are required by Sunday.

Journeys Community topic: 'In the Midst of War'

The theme for the Journeys Community 10 a.m. Sunday service will be "In the Midst of War."

Journeys Community services are held in the auditorium on the second floor of Vantage House Life Care Retirement Community, 5400 Vantage Point Road in Town Center, Columbia.

Christian aerobics classes offered at two churches

Body and Soul Christian Aerobics -- high- or low-impact aerobics and strength training to upbeat contemporary Christian music -- is being offered at 9:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia (410-985-7102) and at 9:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays at South Columbia Baptist Church (410-381-4668).

Classes are to start this month.

Christian choral group is recruiting singers

The Alleluias, an interdenominational Christian choral group based in Howard County, is seeking singers for all voice parts. Group members must be professing Christians with choral or singing experience.

Our Savior Lutheran to sponsor oldies concert

Our Savior Lutheran Church of Laurel will sponsor a concert by the Fabulous Hubcaps, an oldies band, from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30 at Blob's Park in Jessup.

Tickets are $20; $5 for children ages 5 to 12. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Food and drink will be available for purchase. Proceeds will benefit the church's new child development center.
