Bel Air residents asked for input on streetscape

Officials from the Bel Air Town Planning Office are asking for citizen input during a public information session at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on plans for the town's streetscape project and to discuss construction scheduling.

The session will be held at Town Hall, 39 Hickory Ave. The proposed project will extend the length of Main Street from Baltimore Pike to Maulsby Street and will include reconstruction of the road, sidewalks, replacement of storm drains, water lines, lighting and landscaping as well as improvements to its appearance and accessibility.

State Highway Administration representatives are working with town officials on plans for the design of the project, with expectations that a contractor will be selected by May and construction to begin in the spring of 2006.

Future public meetings will be set with session dates posted on the Town of Bel Air Web site at www.belair.bel-air.md.us. Town officials plan to hold information sessions throughout the planning and construction phases of the project.

The concept plan is available for viewing before the meeting at Town Hall and the Bel Air Planning Office, 705 Churchville Road. Written comments must be submitted by Jan. 31 to the Planning Office. For more information, contact the Bel Air Planning office at 410-638-4540.

Community to consider Whiteford walking trail

At 7 p.m. Jan. 20, the Whiteford/Cardiff/Pylesville/Street Community Council will unveil plans for a walking trail during the regular council meeting at the Highland Center, 708 Highland Road in Street.

The plans call for locating a trail along the State Highway Administration's right of way on the north side of Route 165 from Dooley Road to Route 543.

In addition, community members will hear from a representative from Connective Power about upgrades to the system in the wake of Tropical Storm Isabel.
