City announces plans for 5th annual King parade Jan. 17

City officials announced plans yesterday for Baltimore's fifth annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration Parade.

The theme of the parade, scheduled to start at noon Jan. 17, will be "Celebrating Teachers." More than 1,000 city public school teachers are expected to walk in the parade, officials said.

The parade will begin at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Eutaw Street, proceed south on Martin Luther King Boulevard and disband at Baltimore Street. The reviewing stand will be at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Franklin Street.

Among the new participants in the parade will be Kennedy Krieger Institute and the Singing Sons of Abraham. The Edison Montebello Drill Team Academy will present a salute to teachers.
