Shirley B. Pitts, 70, served as clerk at BGE for 27 years

Shirley B. Pitts, a retired Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. clerk, died of a heart attack Dec. 26 at Sinai Hospital. The Cedonia resident was 70.

Born Shirley Bernice Tynes in Baltimore and raised on West Madison Avenue, she attended Carver Vocational-Technical High School and later earned a diploma from the Opportunities Industrialization Training Program.

She worked for 27 years at BGE, retiring in 1994.

She was a former Planned Parenthood volunteer and worked in city voter registration campaigns. She sang in the Mount Olive Baptist Church choir and at her death belonged to Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Services were held Monday.

Survivors include her husband of 28 years, Richard A. Pitts, a retired BGE instructor; two sons, Vincent Peace of San Diego and Troy Peace of Baltimore; a daughter, Isa Jones of Annapolis; two stepsons, Rickey Pitts and Richard Pitts, both of Baltimore; two stepdaughters, Michelle Pitts and Pamela Pitts, both of Baltimore; three brothers, Frissel Lemon and John Tynes, both of Baltimore, and Leon Tynes of San Antonio; two sisters, Ruby Barnes and Odell Tynes, both of Baltimore; 13 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
