Hampstead man, 50, found dead in apartment

An elevated level of carbon monoxide was detected in the Hampstead apartment where a 50-year-old man was found dead late Wednesday night, authorities said.

Hampstead police found the body of Albert Lylle Belt III on the living room floor of his small apartment in the 4000 block of Gill Ave. Officers responded to a call from a friend of Belt's who discovered the body. Belt was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hampstead firefighters found higher than normal levels of poisonous carbon monoxide in the apartment and in an adjoining one. They aired out the units.

Capt. Jay T. Gribbin of the Hampstead Police Department said they were awaiting autopsy results, but speculated that Belt's death was caused by carbon monoxide poisoning, which he said can be caused by a poorly vented furnace. Gribbin said there was no indication of foul play.

Police make arrest in video store robbery

Westminster police have arrested a local man who they believe took $7,500 at knifepoint from a video store manager.

Daniel Luis Abreu, 19, of the 700 block of Young Way in Westminster was charged Wednesday with armed robbery, concealing a deadly weapon and theft.

Police said a man entered the Blockbuster Video store in the 400 block of WMC Drive near McDaniel College on Nov. 7 at 9:49 p.m. He displayed a knife to the store manager, forced him to a back office and demanded that he open the store safe.

After taking the money, the man fled on foot, police said.
