Robert E. Zentz, 63, Carroll homebuilder


Robert E. Zentz, a Carroll County homebuilder, died of leukemia Thursday at Johns Hopkins Hospital. The Finksburg resident was 63.

Born in Baltimore and raised in Westminster, he was a 1959 graduate of Westminster High School, where he played football and volleyball.

After serving in the Army, he became a manager for Tower Ford on East Monument Street and Joe Grimm Ford in Randallstown, among other dealerships.

He left the auto business about 12 years ago and joined his son, Richard Zentz of Westminster, to found REZidential Custom Homes.

A member of Wesley-Freedom United Methodist Church in Eldersburg, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.

In addition to his son, survivors include his wife of 37 years, the former Judy Ogle; two daughters, Stacey Warther of Eldersburg and Heidi Watt Gauss of Westminster; three brothers, William Zentz of Hampstead and Dale Owings and Dennis Owings, both of Westminster; two sisters, Joan Wanken of Westminster and Denise Baker of Frederick; and five grandchildren.
