Carroll Chamber to hold business session on '05 agenda

The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce will present "The Voice of Business" from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Jan. 7 at Wilhelm Ltd. Caterers on Route 140, Westminster.

This question and answer session will include the chamber presenting its 2005 legislative agenda to the Carroll County delegation.

All members of the Annapolis delegation have been invited to the meeting. They include Sens. Larry E. Haines, David R. Brinkley and Allan H. Kittleman; and Dels. Donald B. Elliott, Susan W. Krebs, Tanya Thornton Shewell and Nancy R. Stocksdale.

Chamber members can meet the state representatives and present their views on business.

The cost is $10 and includes a continental breakfast. Reservations are required by Jan. 3.

Dinner dance Jan. 22 to benefit scholarship fund

The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Gala Dinner Dance to benefit the Charles D. Schaffer Scholarship Fund from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Jan. 22 at Wilhelm Ltd. Caterers in Westminster.

The evening will feature hors d'oeuvres, mesclun salad with mandarin oranges and sugared walnuts in raspberry vinaigrette dressing, filet mignon, crab cakes, vegetable medley, baked potato, rolls, beverages and dessert.

The Mood Swings will provide music from the 1930s, '40s and '50s for dancing.

A cash bar will be available all night. Valet parking also will be provided.

Tickets are $60; tables of 10 are $600. Proceeds go to scholarships for high school students.

Reservations are required by Jan. 10.

Small Business Awards lunch slated for March 11

The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce will hold its Small Business Awards luncheon March 11 at Wakefield Valley Golf and Conference Center in Westminster.

To be eligible for awards, businesses must have a permanent location in the county, been in operation for at least two years and be a chamber member.

Awards are given for Small Business of the Year in three categories: one to five employees, six to 50 employees, and 51 to 200 employees. There is also a a Partner in Business award for nonprofits. Winners will be presented at the luncheon.

Deadline for award nominations is Jan. 16.

Black Oak Associates plans to reacquire mall

Black Oak Associates, owned by Dixon Harvey, has formed a new investment group to reacquire Carrolltown Center in Eldersburg.

Harvey first bought the mall in 1993 under Black Rock Associates, then sold it in 1999 to Equity Investment Group of Ft. Wayne, Ind.

Harvey said Black Oak Associates plans to redevelop the mall to complement surrounding shopping and dining options in the area.

Planning may take up to a year.

Black Oak Associates is based in Owings Mills.

Resource center offers employment workshops

The Carroll County Business & Employment Resource Center offers a variety of workshops and programs to help people seeking a job or looking for a new career.

Winfield business sends care packages to Iraq

S&K; Roofing, Siding and Windows of Winfield recently participated in the "My Soldier" program at Manhattanville College by sending six boxes of gifts to U.S. military personnel stationed in Iraq.

S&K; employees collected playing cards, DVDs, toiletries, glow sticks, pens, paper, stamped envelopes, granola bars, socks, lip balm and other personal items for the soldiers.

The workers also wrote letters to soldiers selected by program coordinators.
