MARTHA COX HARTMAN died Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She and her husband Howard had gone to Marietta, Georgia to celebrate Christmas with their daughter and family. She became ill Tuesday evening and was rushed to Kennestone Hospital where after an exhaustive diagnosis, she was helicoptered to Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia which is better equipped for vascular surgery to correct an aneurism of the aorta. She died before the operation. Martha was born in Midland, Pennsylvania, daughter of Charles and Martha Cox. She graduated from Baldwin School in Byrn Mawr, Pennsylvania and Chatham College in Pittsburg. She became interested in Ophthalmology and graduated in 1950. While there, she met and married Howard Hartman. For the rest of her life she volunteered for any service that required a dedicated and responsible person. she was an accomplished classical pianist and while in her teens, won the Penn State Piano contest. Martha is survived by her husband, Howard and three children, daughter Carolyn Jerdan of Marietta, Georgia, Kathryn Buchness of Fredericksburg, Virginia and son Jon Hartman of Annapolis, Indiana, brother, Charles Cox of Penn. and eight grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Our Lady of the Angel at Charlestown Retirement Community. Memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolent Fund at the Charlestown Retirement Community. Arrangements by H.M.
