Severn man, 58, injured after being hit by truck

A Severn man was seriously injured early yesterday when he was struck by a pickup truck while walking on Reece Road near Andorick Drive, police said.

About 3:50 a.m., Harvey Ernest Edwards, 58, was attempting to cross Reece Road when he was hit by a Ford F150 truck being driven by Richard Wayne Mumaw Sr., 56, of Pasadena, police said.

Police said Mumaw told investigators that he slammed on his brakes and swerved to avoid hitting Edwards, but could not stop the truck before striking him. Edwards was thrown more than 80 feet before coming to a rest in the westbound lane of Reece Road, according to a news release from police. He was transported by helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was listed in critical condition late yesterday.

Mumaw was not injured. Charges have not been filed and an investigation is continuing.

Police say couple's death was murder-suicide

Anne Arundel police say that it was 63-year-old Robert Dixon who fatally shot his wife, Carolyn Dixon, 64, and the family's dog last weekend before killing himself with the same weapon.

On the evening of Dec. 18, officers found the Dixons and their pet dead inside their Phyllis Drive home, just hours after Carolyn Dixon had inquired with police about how to seek a protective order against her husband.

Police said the Glen Burnie couple had a recent history of domestic violence.

Man charged with assault in attack on woman, 18

An Annapolis man was being held yesterday on charges of assaulting a teenager Tuesday inside a Farragut Court apartment, police said.

About 4:20 p.m., residents of the complex called 911 to report that a man had dragged a woman into an apartment by her hair, police said. When officers arrived, witnesses told them that they could hear arguing in the apartment.

After no one answered the door, police forced their way into the residence and found the man and an 18-year-old woman inside, according to a news release from police. The woman reported that the man had forced her to take off her clothes and that she feared she would have been sexually assaulted if police had not taken action, the release said.

Jose Wilson Manzanarez, 22, is charged with assault and was being held yesterday on $25,000 bond.

Man suffers gunshot wounds after alleged drug deal

An Annapolis man suffered gunshot wounds to the arm and face early yesterday after he allegedly attempted to buy drugs from a group of men on Newtowne Drive, police said.

Annapolis police interviewed the victim, Sean Brett Sebastian, 31, of Genessee Street as he was being treated for his injuries at Anne Arundel Medical Center, a news release from police said.

According to police, Sebastian told officers that he drove to Newtowne Drive about 12:15 a.m. to buy $10 worth of illegal drugs. He allegedly met with three men, who gave him the drugs, but then failed to produce the money to pay for them.

The men became upset, and Sebastian was shot once as they fled the scene. The bullet struck the side of Sebastian's face and his forearm; his injuries are not considered serious.
