Aaron Bruce scored 22 points, including 14 in the first half, to lead host Baylor to a 97-73 victory over UMES yesterday.
Tommy Swanson and Tim Bush each had 16 points for Baylor (4-3). Patrick Fields added 13 and Roscoe Biggers had 11.
Baylor led 50-28 at the half, but the Hawks (1-8) outscored the Bears 17-7 to open the second half and cut the margin to 57-45 with slightly less than 15 minutes remaining.
But Baylor went on a 13-3 run and took a 70-48 lead three minutes later. UMES cut the lead to 76-62 with 7:41 left but came no closer.
Jareem Dowling led the Hawks with 22 points, while Tim Parham scored 16 and Ryan Leak 15.
The Bears dominated UMES inside, outscoring the Hawks, 46-24, in the paint. Baylor also forced the Hawks into 28 turnovers, resulting in 37 points for the Bears.
Women
Navy 69, Morehead State 46: The host Midshipmen (3-5) advanced to the title game of the Navy Classic after pulling down 31 second-half rebounds and harassing the Eagles (2-6) into 6-for-30 shooting from the field after halftime.
Navy's opponent in today's final will be Delaware State, a 57-51 winner over North Carolina-Asheville.
Northwestern 69, Towson 66: Sara Stutz hit two free throws in the closing seconds to seal the win for the Wildcats (3-10) in the third-place game in the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico.
The Tigers (6-4) got two straight three-pointers from LaShay Rose to trim Northwestern's lead to 67-66 with 26 seconds left, but Sarah Kwasinski followed Stutz's free throws with a blocked shot on Towson's final possession.
