On Saturday, December 18, 2004, BERTEL GLASSMAN; beloved wife of the late Justin Held and the late Harry Glassman; loving mother of Evelyn Held; devoted sister of Claire Baer and the late Norbert Speier; dear friend of Phillip Snyder; loving grandmother of Jennifer Menell and Justin Smolkin. He resided at the Oaks Assisted Living Center in Fruita, CO. Ferd was born to Ferdinand T. Grillo and Louise Metz-Grillo in Dayton, OH. Ferd worked as an electrical engineer for Bethlehem Steel Corporation in Baltimore, MD for 40 years. He was a 32nd Degree Free Mason for 58 years. He was a member of the Patapsaco Masonic Lodge in Dundalk, MD and a member of the Fruita Masonic Lodge #120 in Fruita, CO. Survivors include his son Theodore W. Grillo, his daughters Violet Derderian and Roxana Burrows, his sister Meta Maloney, 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. While living in Colorado Ferd made many friends. He was a wonderful, kind man, who taught his children work ethics and life survival skills. A memorial gathering will be held at 1 P.M. on Tuesday, December 21, 2004, at 188 27 Road, Grand Junction, CO to celebrate Ferd's life for family and friends. His family will take his ashes to Edgewater, FL, to be buried beside his wife at a later date.
