Author seeks businesses to buy book for donation

Linda Furiate, author of 101 Simple Suggestions and Quotations to Express Compassion and Empathy, hopes to donate autographed copies of her book to servicemen and women recuperating at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington.

The Columbia author is asking area businesses to buy copies of the book to be delivered to Walter Reed. Furiate will deliver the books Christmas Eve.

"The book is about compassion; it's really my philosophy about how we can express compassion in our lives," Furiate said.

The book retails for $12.95. A letter stating the name of the contributor will accompany each book. A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit veterans' advocacy and support organization.

Resource center workshop on government contracting

The Howard County Economic Development Authority's Business Resource Center will offer a procurement workshop on regulations and guidelines for government contracting from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Center for Business and Technology Development, 9250 Bendix Road North, Columbia.

The cost is $75. Registration is required.
