UMBC men overwhelm Villa Julie, 84-58


Andrew Feeley had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and UMBC used a 16-0 second-half run to cruise past visiting Villa Julie, 84-58, last night.

Mike Housman scored a season-high 10 points and Rob Gogerty had eight assists for the Retrievers (3-5), who broke a two-game losing streak with a season high in points. UMBC's third home victory surpassed its total from last season.

Stephen Segears led the Division III Mustangs (4-4) with 12 points. Anthony Fitzgerald had 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Wade Henninger added 10 points for the Mustangs, who have lost three straight.

UMBC, playing a Division III team for the first time since December 1999, improved to 15-0 against non-Division I opponents since moving to Division I in 1986-87.

Nicholls State 100, UMES 66: Jason Wilkins scored 26 points and made eight three-pointers for the host Colonels (3-5).

Nicholls led 55-29 at halftime and never gave up the lead.

UMES (1-6) was led by Jareem Dowling with 18 points. Corey Brown added 12 and Jason McKinnon 10.

Cabrini 91, Washington College 80: The host Cavaliers (6-3) made 24 second-half free throws to win their fourth straight.

The Shoremen (3-4) got a career-high 36 points from junior forward Jonathan Webb.

High Point 78, Mount St. Mary's 61: The Mount (3-4) led 35-32 at the half, but the host Panthers (3-7) opened the second half with a 16-1 run en route to the victory.

Charles Cook finished with 13 points, and Antonio Johnson and Landy Thompson each scored 12 for the Mount.


Coppin State 63, Bucknell 51: Leisel Harry's 20 points and 13 rebounds led the host Lady Eagles (6-2) past the Bison (2-6).

Harry was eight of 13 from the field, and Coppin forced 18 turnovers it converted into 18 points.

Richard Stockton 64, St. Mary's 50: Freshman guard Taylor Yearwood led the host Seahawks (4-5) with 14 points, three rebounds and two steals in a loss to the Ospreys (6-2).

Hendrix 103, College of Notre Dame 58: The Lady Warriors (6-3) shot 67 percent from the field in the first half en route to the victory over the Gators (3-4) in the first game of the University of Dallas Classic.

Jacksonville 63, Navy 59: A late 7-0 run by the host Dolphins (3-4) gave them enough of a cushion to defeat the Midshipmen (2-5), who were led by Ashley's Pelzek's 17 points.

Drexel 67, UMBC 53: For the first time this season, the host Retrievers (5-3) did not have a player score in double figures, and they fell to the Dragons (4-2).

Matea Pender, the America East's leading scorer at 18.1 points per game, went 0-for-5 from the field and finished scoreless. Morgan Hatten and Brittnie Hughes each scored nine points to lead UMBC.

Rider 70, Mount St. Mary's 57: The host Broncs (2-6) went on an 11-4 run with less than six minutes left in the game to defeat the Mount (1-6), which got 22 points from forward LaToya Butler.
