No. 9 Aberdeen overwhelms Edgewood in boys basketball


Robbie Jackson paced the Aberdeen offense by dominating in the paint as the ninth-ranked Eagles remained undefeated by defeating visiting Edgewood, 67-47, last night in boys basketball.

Jackson, a 7-foot center, finished with 21 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and three blocks.

The Rams (2-2) could not contain Jackson in the paint and could not get anything started offensively as the Eagles' Jamaal McDonald had seven steals.

Havre de Grace transfer Kashif Brown added 15 points and Marlon Jenifer had 11 for the Eagles (3-0).

Center Nate Hart led the Rams with nine points.

No. 4 St. Frances 62, Loyola 31: Jacques Leeds (11 points, eight rebounds) and Sean Mosley (11 points and nine rebounds) led the host Panthers (5-1).

No. 7 Archbishop Spalding 81, Good Counsel (D.C.) 71: The Cavaliers (7-1) were led by their senior backcourt of Marquis Sullivan (28 points) and Justin Castleberry (21 points) in their win over Good Counsel (2-2) in the first round of the Bullis Holiday Tournament in Potomac.

No. 8 Southwestern 65, Martinsburg (W.Va.) 47: In Hedgesville, W.Va., the Sabres (5-0) beat a team ranked 10th in that state on the strength of Jamal Barney's 25 points, 13 rebounds and six assists.

No. 12 McDonogh 67, St. John's-Prospect Hall 40: The host Eagles (7-1) bounced back from Tuesday's loss to Towson Catholic with a strong performance against the Vikings (2-4), who had won two straight.

DaJuan Summers scored a season-high 23 points and had 14 rebounds to lead the rout.

No. 15 Glen Burnie 50, Chesapeake-AA 48: After trailing most of the game, the visiting Gophers (3-1) won the game on a three-pointer from Scott Matthews (22 points) as time expired.

Cardinal Gibbons 92, Carolina Forest (S.C.) 34: The Crusaders (6-3) won on the first day of the Waccamaw River Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., behind 19 points from Donatas Visockis.

Girls basketball

No. 4 McDonogh 52, No. 15 Seton Keough 34: Brittany Mallory had 15 points, 10 rebounds, seven steals and five assists to lead the visiting Eagles (7-0) past the Gators (2-4).

No. 11 Severna Park 64, Southern 39: Laura Moore paced the host Falcons (4-0) with 15 points.

Digital Harbor 48, Lewis 30: Jasmine Campbell had 14 points to give the host Rams (1-4) the first win in the program's history.


No. 15 Old Mill 34, No. 11 Gilman 28: Keith Jones won the 275-pound weight class with a 5-0 decision over Justin Wiley to seal the victory for the host Millers (2-1). The Greyhounds fell to 2-1.
