Convicted sex offender, 28, charged with assaulting girl

A convicted sex offender was in custody last night after Anne Arundel County police charged him with assaulting a 15-year- old girl in Glen Burnie and failing to register with local authorities.

Deon Lamont Kinard, 28, of the 400 block of Old Stage Road in Glen Burnie was charged Wednesday night with third-degree and fourth-degree sex offenses as well as second-degree assault, said police spokesman Sgt. Shawn Urbas.

On Monday, the teenager told police that a man asked her a question and then grabbed her as she walked to a bus stop on Old Stage Road near Baylor Road that morning.

She broke free and told other students at the bus stop what happened. Based on her description, police issued a warrant for Kinard's arrest.

Kinard was required to register annually with the local police department because he had been arrested in Prince George's County in 2000 and convicted of a sexual offense against a child. He last registered in September 2003, so Kinard was also charged with failure to register as a sex offender, Urbas said.

He was being held last night on $75,000 bond at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center.
