Chase Adams hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to keep top-ranked Mt. St. Joseph undefeated as the Gaels advanced to the second round of the Gonzaga D.C. Classic with a 59-56 victory over Germantown Academy of Pennsylvania yesterday.
Adams, who came off the bench, also hit a three to give the Gaels a 53-50 lead.
Dejaun Goodwin had 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists to lead Mt. St. Joseph (5-0).
Louis Birdsong added 12 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks for the Gaels.
Ryan Ayers led Germantown (4-1) with 21 points.
No. 11 Southwestern 87, National Christian 63: Jamal Barney led the Sabres with 26 points, eight assists and five steals. Andrew Cooper had a double double with 16 points and 10 assists.
National Christian was led by Walbrook transfer Jimmy Conyers, who had 45 points.
Fallston 64, Southside 40: Senior center Phil Vornadore finished with 30 points, including shooting 12-for-14 from the line, and also had 15 rebounds, three steals and two blocks for the host Cougars (2-0).
Mount Carmel 64, Arlington Baptist 50: Brandon Baylor led the host Cougars (5-2) with 18 points.
Walbrook 79, Poly 47: Ed Tyson finished with a triple double -- 22 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists -- for the host Warriors (2-0) in the Function at the Junction.
Warrior Rodney Stuill had a double double with 19 points and 19 rebounds.
Laquan Williams led the Engineers (1-2) with 21 points.
Park 73, CHEN 63: The host Bruins (5-0) beat the Bravehearts on double-digit scoring from guard Zack White (15 points), guard Paul Weitz (18) points and center Alex Brooks (16). Brooks also had six blocks.
Greater Grace 60, Perryville 53: Tyler Yanosky scored 27 points and had 11 rebounds to lead Greater Grace (4-2) to a win over visiting Perryville. Julian Chersoke, a sophmore guard, had 16 points for the Eagles.
Liberty 53, Poly 44: Lauren Locklear had 17 points to lead the host Lions (1-1). She went five of seven from the field and three for three from three-point range.
Stacey Krebs finished with 12 points and seven rebounds and Mandy Pizzillo had 10 points for the Lions.
Bel Air 41, Elkton 29: Catie Joynes led the Bobcats (2-0) with 19 rebounds and four points.
