DINAH GROSSMAN WOLFE, 96, dies of Kidney failure at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, MD on December 3rd. Born in Baltimore, she was a graduate of Western High School, Class of 1925. She moved to Richmond in 1935 after her marriage to the late Harry A. (Hank) Wolfe. Mrs. Wolfe was a private secretary to Dr. Douglass Southall Freeman author of the 3-volume Lee's Lieutenants. "Miss Death" as he called he was exceedingly proud to have typed the manuscripts for the first two volumes and handled the international correspondence that followed their publication. She was President of Richmond Section, National Council of Jewish Women from 1951-1953 and served on the NCJW National Board as Vice Chairman of the National Committee on Public Affairs. She co-chaired "Israel Showcase '76" at the Jewish Community Center, and was active on the " Save Our Schools Committee" in 1955-56. She also served as Chairman of the Community Relations Committee of the Richmond Jewish Community Council from 1953-1955. At the age of 57, Mrs. Wolfe enrolled at Virginia Commonwealth University as a freshman. She graduated in 1969 with a BA in English. Her loyalty to the college and enthusiasm for its students led to her employment as an assistant to the Director of the School for Continuing Education, where she remained until her retirement. For health reasons, Mrs. Wolfe moved to Annapolis, MD, in 2000. Mrs. Wolfe is survived by one sister, Sadie Grossman, of Delray Beach, FL, and daughters Joyce Hoffer of Annapolis, Norma Sue Wolfe of Staten Island, NY and Marilyn Ruben of Yuma, AZ. She also leaves grandchildren Lee Hoffer, Rachel Byrd, Amy Ruben, Brian Hoffer and Alan Hoffer and great-granddaughter Samantha Byrd, sons-in-law Barry Hoffer and Joel Ruben and 24 midshipmen, past and present, from the US Naval Academy, to whom she was "The Sponsor Grandma." Funeral Services will be held on December 5, at 11 AM at Beth El Chapel, Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond, VA. with Interment following.
