On December 1, 2004 MARY JANE STEELE of Texarkana, Texas. Beloved mother, grandmother and wife was called home to our Merciful Father after a short illness. She was surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Sgt. Major William James Steele Sr., USMC, Retired, her father Harry M. Connor, Sr. and her mother Ruby Connor. Mary Jane Connor was born on June 1, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio, and was raised in Perry Hall, Maryland, just outside of Baltimore. Mary Jane led an exciting life as a Marine Corps wife which took her to many parts of our country before finally settling in Texarkana in 1980 after her husband's retirement from the Marines. She was ver active in community activities, editing newsletters, and raising her four children. After her husband's retirement, Mary Jane began working at GAB Business Services, Inc., and then for Offenhauser and Co., where she made many lifelong friends. She was active in the Texarkana Republican Women's Club, serving as the editor of their newsletter. She enjoyed her daily walks and chats over coffee with her friends at Central Mall. She has been a member of Liberty Eylau Baptist Church since 1980. She loved her Lord, her family, and her country. Mary Jane is survived by her four children, a son William James Steele, Jr. of Austin, Texas, daughters Joyce Kelsven of Keller, Maureen Steele of Texarkana, and Mary Morton of Garland, her grandchildren William James Steele III, Caitlyn, Brieana, and Connor Waits, and Paige Morton, brothers Harry M. Connor, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA, and Melvin L. Connor of Baltimore, MD, and sister Dolores Davis of Timonium, MD. Services will be held at East Funeral Home, 2807 Moores Lane in Texarkana at 2 P.M. on December 4, 2004. The interment will be held at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends and visitors at East Funeral Home from 6 to 8 P.M. on December 3, 2004.
