Marla A. Colton of Titusville, N.J., wrote to say she was seeking a recipe for "No-Bake Cookies. They are made with chocolate, peanut butter and oatmeal.
"I enjoyed them as a child when they were served in the public school cafeteria."
Nancy Lindsay of Salem, Ore., responded. "This is the recipe requested by Marla A. Colton for my favorite 'candy' cookies. They are called Three-Minute Cookies," Lindsay said.
Makes 3 dozen cookies
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1/2 cup milk
1 stick ( 1/4 pound) butter or margarine
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup peanut butter (Lindsay likes the extra-crunchy kind)
3 cups oatmeal
Combine sugar, cocoa, milk and butter or margarine in saucepan. Boil 3 minutes. Remove from heat, cool slightly, add vanilla extract and peanut butter and blend. Stir in oatmeal. Drop onto waxed paper by heaping spoonfuls. Cool and enjoy.
Tester Laura Reiley's comments: "I remember these cookies from my own childhood. They have a fudgy, peanut-buttery coating that holds the crunchy oatmeal together. After stirring in the oatmeal, work fairly quickly as the mixture begins to stiffen.
"If your kitchen is warm, you may want to refrigerate these cookies on waxed-paper-lined cookie sheets to get the coating to set. They will keep in an airtight container for several days."

Doris Allen of Woodleaf, N.C., is seeking a recipe for Molasses Cookies "that are very moist and soft. My husband's grandmother made them, but we cannot locate her recipes. He said as you held one in your hand, the cookie would almost fold over."
