John "Jack" Green, Sr., 67, of Street, Md. and formerly of Middletown, DE. died Friday, July 9, 2004 at the Gilchrist Center in Baltimore, MD. after a courageous battle with thyroid cancer. Jack was born on April 10, 1937 in Philadelphia to the late John C. and Ruth I. Green. He attended Middletown High School where he cultivated many long lasting friendships before his graduation in 1955. He attended New York State Vet College at Cornell University and graduated in 1958. He served in the Delaware Army National Guard from 1959 until 1964. He attained the rank of Specialist 5th Class. Jack was a long time, accomplished farrier at Maryland Throughbred race tracks and Maryland horse farms. He was a member of the United States Trotting Association where he pursued his dream of racing Standardbreds as an amateur driver. He was past President of the Farrier's Local Union and a member of several amateur driver's associations. Jack is survived by his children, Capt. John Green of Fayetteville, N.C., Elizabeth "Missy" Green of Brooklyn, N.Y. a Brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Marlene Green of Middletown, De., Nephews Richard Green, Jr., Victor Green, John E. Green, and a niece Julia Green Bataille. Services will be held on Thursday, July 15th at 11:00 am in St. Annes Episcopal Church, located on East Green street in Middletown. Friends may call Wed. Evening from 7-9 PM at the DANILES & HUTCHISON FUNERAL HOME, 212 N. Broad street, Middletown. Burial will be in Old St. Annes Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions to the " John H. Green Memorial Fund." Donations may be sent in C/O DANIELS & HUTCHISON FUNERAL HOME, P.O. Box 126, Middletown, De. 19709. Proceeds will be donated to a charity to be determined by the family.
