Former hotel clerk, husband charged in credit card scheme

A former Columbia hotel clerk has been arrested on charges of stealing personal information from guests' credit cards and using it to make more than $15,000 in purchases.

State police said yesterday that Tanika M. Falchetti, 29, of Windsor Mill was charged with multiple counts of credit card fraud as well as possessing equipment to produce counterfeit credit cards. Her husband, Hector Falchetti, also was charged in the scheme but had not been arrested as of last night, police said. Tanika Falchetti, who was arrested Thursday, was being held in lieu of $140,000 bail at the Baltimore County Women's Detention Center in Towson.

Police said a Virginia man who had last used his credit card at the Extended Stay America hotel in Columbia in February contacted them in May about $4,000 in unauthorized charges on his bill.

An investigation found at least 18 cases in which out-of-state guests at the hotel had their credit cards scanned for information to create fraudulent duplicates, police said.
