Dump truck, Explorer collide in Cecil County, killing man

An accident involving a dump truck, a trash truck and a Ford Explorer on Route 213 near Cecilton in Cecil County yesterday left one person dead and three injured, according to police.

About 1:15 p.m., a trash truck driven by James Weiss of Claymont, Del., was traveling south on Route 213 when Weiss tried to make a left turn onto Bohemia Church Road, police said.

A dump truck driven by Salayman Woodbury of Philadelphia traveling behind the trash truck, could not slow down in time to miss the vehicle and swerved left to avoid the truck, according to police.

The dump truck clipped the corner of the trash truck and continued onto the northbound lanes of Route 213, where it collided head on with a 1994 Ford Explorer, police said.

The driver of the Explorer, Thomas Franklin, 73, of Worton in Kent County, was killed. His wife, Beverly, 69, was flown to Christiana Hospital in Newark, Del., along with Weiss, according to police. Woodbury was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was listed in fair condition.
