A recent thunderstorm caused two picnic sites in Rocks State Park to remain closed through the weekend, though the park's officials expect to reopen the areas by Saturday.
Rocks State Park in Jarrettsville closed its Wilson and Hills Grove sites Tuesday, after the storm caused Deer Creek to rise more than 10 feet.
Debris littered the campgrounds, while deposits of silt, about 5 inches deep, covered the sites.
John Norbeck, regional manager for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources' state forest and park services division, said most of the picnic tables in the two sites were broken or washed into the creek. Together, the picnic areas make up nearly two-thirds of the park.
