Dorothy L. Ferguson, a retired medical secretary, died of complications from lung cancer Tuesday at Villages Hospital in Lady Lake, Fla. The former Baltimore Highlands resident was 76.
Born Dorothy Johnson and raised in the Dorchester County community of Secretary, she moved to Baltimore many years ago.
She became a medical secretary and worked in the Glen Burnie office of Dr. Jorge M. Ramirez. She retired 11 years ago and moved to Lady Lake in 1993.
A Democrat, she belonged to Anne Arundel County political clubs and fire department auxiliaries. She also enjoyed cooking and shopping.
Her first husband, Armis Strickland Sr., died in 1965. Her second husband was Harry Ferguson, a truck driver who died in 1998.
Services were held yesterday in Lady Lake.
Surviving are a son, Armis Strickland Jr. of Gainesville, Va.; three daughters, Juanita Keys of Baltimore, Diana Strickland of Clermont, Fla., and Margaret Gebhard of Fruitland Park, Fla.; a brother, William R. Johnson of Summerfield, Fla.; a sister, Mary Deans of Rocky Mount, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
