Larry Darnell Spearman, 54, housing investigator

Larry Darnell Spearman, a New York housing authority investigator, died of complications of pneumonia June 3 at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. The former East Baltimore resident was 54.

Born in Baltimore and raised on North Broadway, he was a 1968 Frederick Douglass High School graduate

He earned an associate's degree from what is now Baltimore City Community College in 1970, the year he moved to New York's Harlem and joined the New York City Department of Labor. He later became a housing authority investigator. In 1972 he received a bachelor's degree from City College of New York.

He was a foster parent for several years and played the keyboard and sang.

Services were private.

Survivors include his mother, Angela Spearman Jones; a brother, Kenneth Spearman; and a sister, Wanda Spearman. All reside in Baltimore. He also is survived by two nieces and two nephews.
