McDermott, Lutz win Chesapeake

Mike McDermott and Chip Lutz captured the rain-shortened Chesapeake Cup championship yesterday, shooting a 3-under-par 68 to win the 45-hole, two-day tournament by four strokes over Pat Tallent and Chris Lange at Caves Valley Golf Course.

McDermott and Lutz had been locked in a three-way tie for first at 101 after the first 27 holes Friday, before carding the low 18-hole score yesterday in play that had been scheduled for 27 holes. The Mid-Amateur winners finished 9-under for the tournament. Tallent and Lange rose from a seventh after the first day by shooting 70.

In the Senior division, Jim Smith and Fred Silver overtook first-day leaders Marty West and Bill Boles to win the title. The victors shot 2-over 73 to finish at 2-under while West and Boles carded a 77 to end in a second-place tie with Doug Ballenger and Tom Slater at 1-over.
