World premiere dance
Last season the Naoko Maeshiba Performance Collective performed its inaugural work, Communitas, at the Theatre Project. Now the troupe has a new work, The Voyage, making its world premiere there tonight.
A dance theater piece, The Voyage uses influences ranging from Japanese Noh theater to Western movement theater to depict the voyage between life and death. The Voyage was created collaboratively over a nine-month period by its seven performers. Maeshiba, a native of Kobe, Japan, is a member of the theater faculty at Towson University.
Show times at the Theatre Project, 45 W. Preston St., are 8 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays, and 3 p.m. June 6, through June 12. Tickets are $16. Call 410-752-8558.
