Two trainers buy Colosseum Gym from founder and owner
David Sturman and Timothy Gallagher recently bought the Colosseum Gym & Fitness center in Columbia from founder and owner Drew Sandberg.
Gallagher, 43, worked at Colosseum for 11 years as a personal trainer and general manager. A graduate of South Carroll High School, he earned a degree in general studies from Central Texas College and served 12 years in the Army before joining Sandberg at the gym.
Sturman, 33, is a graduate of Centennial High School. He earned a degree in economics from St. Mary's College. After pursuing a career in finance, he founded Best Friends Petsitting in Howard County and became a fitness trainer at Colosseum.
The company has grown from a home-based business in 1993 to a 9,600-square-foot facility with more than 20 personal trainers and annual receipts of more than $1 million.
Grant applications taken by children's board
The Howard County Local Children's Board is awarding grants for children's services in the community for fiscal year 2005.
Funding is available for the following services: family preservation; home visiting; case management; juvenile justice; after-school programs; safe and stable families; developmental-assets programs; family-support programs; and community education.
Grant applications must be received by June 1.
A bidders conference will be held Wednesday at the Local Children's Board, 3300 N. Ridge Road, Suite 360, Ellicott City.
